First you have to know your present distance to understand if you would like to increase or decrease comparing with your needs, if the distance is longer we have a greater cables recovering so the clutch will be off earlier but the force to actuate the lever is bigger.
If the distance is shorter we have a minor cables recovering, so you need to carry out a greater lever movement in order to let the clutch to be off.
In the case, the the vamtage is that the force to activate the lever is lower.
Note: in order to have a more comfortable drive is you have adapted the lever next to the grip you have to be careful, because if you want to choose a shorter lever, you could risk that the lever touches the grip before the clutch would be off.
